CPI at 2.6% for Dec 2025
- The annual core consumer price inflation rate in the United States was 2.6% in December 2025, the lowest since March 2021 and the same as in November.
- This 2.6% reading came in slightly below market expectations of 2.7%.
- Price increases slowed for used cars and trucks, rising 1.6% compared with 3.6% in November.
- Price increases also slowed for household furnishings and operations, rising 4% compared with 4.6% in November.
- The shelter index, a large component of the basket, rose 3.2% over the year after a 3% increase in the prior month.
- Other indexes with notable annual increases included medical care at 3.2% (up from 2.9%), recreation at 3% (up from 1.8%), and personal care at 3.7% (up from 3.3%).
